Not for Sale Summer Evenings

NFS Summer evening event

CHASTE's Not for Sale Campaign continues to grow in scale and depth this summer as throughout the country communities and churches will be getting involved in holding summer events: from BBQ's, concerts, summer fetes, garden parties, to water-fights and pot-plant sales. Join us and work for a more just Britain addressing the demand market as our part of ending enslavement of women in this bicentenary.

Please help us raise awareness and get our campaigning funds in order to resist the growth in the sex markets in Britain where women are traded for as little as £25 for a half hour – not only in London, but Gloucester, Cambridge, Newcastle, Birmingham, the list continues

Looking forward to hearing about your event – for more ideas click: www.notforsaleuk.org

The UKHTC Research Forum:
Research and Education Sub-Group

UKHTC

We are very pleased to announce that the new UKHTC Research Forum is now underway, chaired by CHASTE CEO Rev Dr Carrie Pemberton. The Research Forum serves to bring together expertise from across Universities, government agencies and NGO’s and will help to identify important research areas as well as gaps in provision. The Forum is already playing a key role in increasing collaborative partnership as we work strategically to make the UK a hostile territory for traffickers.

CHASTE time for a®rest campaign success:
UK Government signs European Convention!

On the 23 March 2007 the Government signed The Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings.

The Convention encourages the provision of time for reflection and recovery for those who have been trafficked. CHASTE also welcomes the publication by the Home Office of its UK Action Plan on Tackling Human Trafficking.

We would like to thank all those who have helped lobby the Government through our campaign and urge you to write to your MP to encourage ratification.

CHASTE Albania – New Opportunities for collaboration!

Albania volunteersAlbanian volunteers from CHASTE, IOM and Caritas

CHASTE’s work in Albania moves forward with this visit of volunteers and NGO leaders from Albania this June 2007

CHASTE welcomes on board Hannah Wilson from the Baptist World Mission Society who was recently appointed Project Leader for CHASTE Albania.

JenniferThis summer we also have CHASTE Intern Jennifer Hollinger joining us from the Advocacy Project.

You can read Jennifer’s blog at: http://advocacynet.org/blogs/index.php?blog=90 for some fascinating insights into what is taking place in Albania today in the fight against Human Trafficking.

CHASTE has just brought a team of Albanian church workers and NGO leaders to the UK in June. Hannah Wilson notes this as “a really significant development for Albanian churches to move forward their capacity to respond to the damage which is done to human lives in Albania and countries of destination.”

Dr Carrie Pemberton Chief Executive of CHASTE commented:

“We are delighted to have the expertise of Hannah working with the CHASTE team in this area. Hannah has worked in Albania for the past five years with BMS World Mission with a special brief to work with vulnerable women and victims of trafficking. Now that BMS has become one of CHASTE’s organisational partners, the opportunities for Ecumenical cooperation in Albania has opened up in a powerfully new way”.

CHASTE ALBANIA – Funds needed

We urgently need funds to develop our work in Albania which is recognised as one of the key stones in trafficking for sexual exploitation in Europe.

CHASTE has recruited a Project leader, brought over Albanian change agents for training, and will be visiting Albania in the autumn for training along with the UKHTC.

We need £20,000 in order to properly fund this work over the Autumn period – please consider giving us a direct gift to facilitate this important new direction in our work. Thank you – Carrie Pemberton

FreeFall is a young arts and drama team brought together for this specific production. They use a fusion of movement, image, text and puppetry to bring the audience on a journey alongside all those involved in the web of the illegal sex trade. Audience and performer will join together in experiencing the stories which emerge from the exploration of the seedy, unseen underbelly of our society. This is a must see piece of dynamic theatre for today.

Help the work of CHASTE! Buy a duck! Go Quackers!

Duce raceWhy did the duck cross the river?

Well to help CHASTE of course! On Sunday 2nd September 165,000 rubber ducks will be taking part in the Great British Duck Race. They will be swimming down the Thames near Hampton Court. The Great Duck Race will also be trying to set a new world record and raise money for charities at the same time.

It’s the London marathon of the duck world so why not sponsor one of these poor ducks and encourage them in their task? Go to the webpage www.thegreatbritishduckrace.co.uk and select CHASTE as your chosen charity. You can then sponsor a duck for only £2 each and you will have a chance to win the grand prize of £10,000!

Its just a small amount of money, and a bit of fun and is another great way to support CHASTE so get your friends involved and encourage those poor old ducks!! You'd have to be quackers not to (sorry!)
