CHASTE Christmas Carol 2006
Cold Carol
(To be sung to the tune of In the Bleak Mid Winter)
Through chill Europe’s cities,
Through your own home town
Frozen souls are blowing,
Coldly trodden down.
God’s girls, born to freedom
Bound, abused and hurt
Hidden slaves among us
Ground to dirt
Blood we share in common,
Flesh that is the Word;
Bonds which make this awful,
Evil and absurd.
Are we truly human
On our Christ Child’s day,
Or some icy creatures
Who can look away?
How may we be happy,
Calm or dignified
While they suffer near us,
Neighbours, crucified?
